Here is another 3D holographic display solution and the difference is that in this implementation physical objects and virtual elements can come together to create a unique experience that is better than either an object or graphics could do by themselves.

The ball you see in the video below is a real physical object that you can pick up and play with but the fire is virtual but looks real. This takes us one step closer to a holodeck from star trek with the combination of a object and a free floating animation or video that feels like it is actually there in the room instead of some animation.
