Best Buy Takes Rewards to the Next Level with Shopkick

Best Buy has partnered with an iPhone app called Shopkick to automatically check you in at their stores. Shopkick is partnering with several retailers to check you in when you are at a location.

It uses ultrasonic frequencies instead of the standard GPS to achieve the effect and when you check in at a Best Buy checking-in will get the user access to reward or discounts. It is a very interesting fusion of location based technology and the shopping experience that will be interesting to see.

I know I am very curious about how it works and would love to test it out but there is a lot that needs to make such a program viable in the long run. The main thing for me is that I am happy that some major retailer is testing this technology out to see if it does work. Great job Best Buy!
